The May 2nd SSFS meeting will feature Stephen Bramwell of the Washington State Extension Agriculture Faculty speaking on a needs assessment for south sound farms.

At the SSFS April 4th meeting, Ian stoner will discuss Backyard Orchard Culture. He will discuss putting multiple trees in the same hole as a means of managing a small space, pollination biology, and woody plant botany.

The South Sound Fruit Society is holding its Grafting Workshop and Scion Exchange on March 18th from 10 – 2.
Jerry Kehoe and Lori Brakken will demonstrate different kinds of graphs for fruit trees and custom grafting will be available. You can bring your own cuttings! There will be rootstock ($3) and scion wood ($1)for sale .
The workshop will be at the Eastside Urban Farm and Garden, 2326 4th Ave E., Olympia.
Jeb Thurow will lecture on different rootstocks and what makes the best fruit tree for different conditions and use.

South Sound Fruit Society March Meetings
The March 7th meeting topic is going to be Rootstocks. Jeb Thurow will tell us all about rootstocks in preparation for our grafting workshop on the 18th. Both of these events will be at the Eastside Farm and Garden Center in Olympia. Jeb’s talk will be from 7 to 8 PM, approx.
The grafting workshop will be that Saturday, the 18th, from 10 to 2 (probably). Jerry buy champix india Kehoe and Lori Brakken will explain and demonstrate 2 kinds of grafting of the rootstock to the scion wood to make a whole fruit tree. We will have various rootstock to purchase ($3) and a selection of scion wood ($1). Then we will have people available to help you graft right there or to do custom graphs for you ($6) .
Susan Dolan will be giving a presentation at the Feb 7th meeting of the South South Fruit Society meeting: Preserving Historic Orchards in the National Parks.
She is the author of Fruitful Legacy, a book about Historic Orchards.
The talk will be at 7PM at the Eastside Urban Farm and Garden, 2326 4th Ave, East, Olympia, Wa.
At the Sept 6th meeting of the South Sound Fruit Society, Dave Nygard of the Thurston County Soil Conservation District will speak on soil tests and understanding the soil test results. The meeting will be on the first Tuesday in Sept at the Eastside Farm and Garden, 2326 4th Ave E., Olympia from 7 – 8.
Mike Lempriere of Perennial Vinters on Bainbridge Island will be speaking and showing slides at the August 2 South Sound Fruit Society meeting at 7 PM at the Eastside Urban Farm and Garden , 2326 4th Ave E., Olympia, 98506
Jean Williams will discuss growing fruit on an espalier: kinds of support structures, how to prune, and pictures of how the different designs grow. She has a Belgian fence with 60 different kinds of apples on it and over 400 apples and pears in her orchard.
