Our big show is two weeks away! Let’s hope all this snow goes away by then.
Learn how to graft and make your own fruit tree, or have one of our members make it for you. Add varieties to existing trees. Beginners welcome! Choose from hundreds of antique and modern varieties of apples, pears, cherries, and plums. We will be selling EMLA 26 apple, OHxF 87 pear, K-5 cherry, and K-1 plum rootstock; scion wood for grafting; and sticks of figs, grapes, and kiwis for rooting. Stock up on berries and other plants, footies for insect protection, grafting knives, mason bees and houses, and other supplies. Learn all about pests and diseases and what to do about them. Find out about our native mason bees and how to care for them. We’ll have lots of experts on hand to try to answer all your fruit related questions. Spend some time with us at the show and learn all kinds of interesting things. Admission is free, but donations are greatly appreciated.

Joe Machcinski from Pangea Gardenscapes, LLC will be the speaker at our first meeting of the year. Joe has been a Master Gardener for 18 years and in the landscape industry for almost 20 years. He has taught classes on natural yard care and pruning at Tacoma Community College and had a gardening column in the local paper. He has also been a member of Peninsula Fruit Club since 2002. Join us to hear what Joe has to say about growing fruit on Thursday, January 10, at 7 pm in the Sheridan Park Community Center, 680 Lebo Blvd., Bremerton.

2018 Fall Fruit Show presented by Peninsula Fruit Club, a chapter of Western Cascade Fruit Society. Come join us for a fun day of fruit tasting and learning about growing fruit. Get your mystery apples identified—bring 4-6 samples of each kind, don’t wash, leave the stems on, tell us about the tree. Sample dozens of different varieties of apples, pears, and other fruit. Take in a video or browse our information tables. Learn about pests, diseases, and mason bees. Find something interesting at our plant sale, and stock up on supplies for next year. Ask questions of our experts. Admission is free but donations are appreciated.

Herbalist and author, Kathryn Lafond, will discuss herbs, especially those derived from fruit plants, at our meeting this Thursday, October 11, 2018. We will also fill you in about the new Health Dept. rules for setting up and making our Fall Fruit Show happen. The meeting is in the Sheridan Park Community Center, 680 Lebo Blvd., Bremerton at 7 pm.
At our September meeting, PFC life and founding member Chris Smith will be talking about cider making, both hard and sweet. If you have old-time cider apples, please bring in some for others to taste. We meet in the Sheridan Park Community Center, 680 Lebo Blvd., Bremerton on Thursday, Sept. 13, at 7 pm.
We’re having a longer question and answer session this month to try to get to everyone’s questions. Also please consider sharing what you feel is the best change that you have made to your orchard/garden over the years and how it has improved your productivity or made your life easier. We meet in the Sheridan Park Community Center, 680 Lebo Blvd., Bremerton at 7 pm on Thursday, Aug. 9.
Our July meeting will be devoted to questions and answers and show and tell. Bring all your questions about fruit growing, and we will try to give you some answers. Also, if you have something cool or useful you would like to share with the group, bring it to the meeting and tell everyone about it. We will also enjoy our annual ice cream social.
