SCFS Mtg “Growing Avocados” Thurs 3/14/19

Please join us Thursday evening, March 14, from 7-9pm at the Snohomish Boys & Girls Club, located at 402 2nd Street, Snohomish to hear our very own member, John Cornell, speak to us about Growing Avocados. John is our Board Vice President and has been a commercial avocado grower in California since 1992. His 34 acre orchard in Southwes Riverside County, currently grows Hass and Reed avocados, but they also have Star Ruby Grapefruit, Southern Highbush Blueberries, Seedless Kishu citrus and other assorted citrus and stone fruit. Approximately two acres of John’s California property has experimental rootstocks selected by UC for evaluation trials. If that isn’t enough, John is also the current Editor of the Index Insider Newsletter distributed throughout the avocado grower community and past member of the research committee for the
California Avocado Commission! Bring your pen and note paper as it is sure to be an informative evening!

Please come a few minutes early to meet some of our new members and enjoy some snacks, desserts, and beverages. We will start our meeting promptly at 7pm with a short business overview. We will continue to dedicate some time for a question & answer session for those members experiencing problems in their orchards (Please bring samples of your issue if possible), and then we will welcome our speaker.
We look forward to another great year of learning and growing more & better fruit!

The meeting is open to the public and everyone is invited. Snohomish Boys and Girls Club, 402 2 nd Street, Snohomish, WA 98290.

PFC Spring Grafting Show – March 2

Our big show is two weeks away!  Let’s hope all this snow goes away by then.

Learn how to graft and make your own fruit tree, or have one of our members make it for you.  Add varieties to existing trees.  Beginners welcome!  Choose from hundreds of antique and modern varieties of apples, pears, cherries, and plums. We will be selling EMLA 26 apple, OHxF 87 pear, K-5 cherry, and K-1 plum rootstock; scion wood for grafting; and sticks of figs, grapes, and kiwis for rooting. Stock up on berries and other plants, footies for insect protection, grafting knives, mason bees and houses, and other supplies. Learn all about pests and diseases and what to do about them. Find out about our native mason bees and how to care for them. We’ll have lots of experts on hand to try to answer all your fruit related questions. Spend some time with us at the show and learn all kinds of interesting things. Admission is free, but donations are greatly appreciated.

Join us Saturday, March 2, 2019, from 10 AM to 4 PM, at the West Side Improvement Club, 4109 West E Street, Bremerton  98312.
