SSFS Sept 6 Meeting : Soil Test Analysis

At the Sept 6th meeting of the South Sound Fruit Society, Dave Nygard of the Thurston County Soil Conservation District will speak on soil tests and understanding the soil test results. The meeting will be on the first Tuesday in Sept at the Eastside Farm and Garden, 2326 4th Ave E., Olympia from 7 – 8.

Apple and Pear Tree Espaliers – South Sound Fruit Society Meeting June 7th 2016

Jean Williams will discuss growing fruit on an espalier: kinds of support structures, how to prune, and pictures of how the different designs grow. She has a Belgian fence with 60 different kinds of apples on it and over 400 apples and pears in her orchard.

The meeting will be at the Eastside Urban Farm and Garden Center, 2326 4th Ave E, Olympia, 98506 at 7 PM.

Tools : How to pick them, How to maintain them

Lowell Cordes will discuss how to select a tool. what makes a good tool, steel, ergonomics, maintenance, and sharpening.

SSFS Grafting Workshop March 13th

The South Sound Fruit Society will hold their grafting workshop on Sunday March 13th. There will be a presentation on grafting with a demonstration of whip and tongue grafting and custom grafting will be available. Scion wood for apples and pears and apple and pear rootstock will be available to purchase. $.50 per scion and $2.50 per rootstock. the workshop is free to member and $5 to non-members. It will chantix to buy online start at noon and go to 3 PM.

The rootstocks will be : 10 of each of the dwarfing rootstocks for apple (M26), pear (quince) and plum (colt), and 20 each of the semi dwarfing for apple (M106), plum (Mustang) and, with 30 semi dwarf pear (OhxF 333)

The workshop will be held at the Eastside Farm and Garden, 2326 4th Ave E, Olympia 98506
