PFC July 12 – Q & A and Show & Tell

Our July meeting will be devoted to questions and answers and show and tell.  Bring all your questions about fruit growing, and we will try to give you some answers.  Also, if you have something cool or useful you would like to share with the group, bring it to the meeting and tell everyone about it.  We will also enjoy our annual ice cream social.  Bring some samples of your fresh fruit to share as toppings.  We meet in the Sheridan Park Community Center, 680 Lebo Blvd., Bremerton on July 12 at 7 pm.

PFC June 14 – Tall spindle pruning

At our meeting this month, we will be showing a video on the tall spindle pruning method.  We will also be incorporating a question and answer session into our meetings, so bring all your questions about growing fruit.  We have a vast pool of knowledge and experience in the club and hopefully the answers!  Join us at 7 pm in the Sheridan Park Community Center, 680 Lebo Blvd., Bremerton on June 14.

PFC May 10 – Apple Anthracnose

We will be watching a video about the fungus disease anthracnose at our meeting this Thursday, May 10.  We will also hold our annual fruit club plant sale, so bring your extra plant starts, tubers, trees, berries, or whatever to sell at the meeting with proceeds going to the club.  The meeting starts at 7 pm in the Sheridan Park Community Center, 680 Lebo Blvd., Bremerton.

PFC April 12 – Debbie Cassidy on Permaculture

Our speaker this month will be Debbie Cassidy, the new owner of Sunnycrest Nursery in Key Center.  Her topic will be Permaculture and how we can make a difference with sustainable local fruit production.  We meet this Thursday, April 12, in the Sheridan Park Community Center, 680 Lebo Blvd., Bremerton, at 7 pm.

PFC March 8 – Pruning blueberries

At this month’s meeting on Thursday, March 8, we will be watching a video about pruning blueberries in preparation for our Blueberry Park pruning session. We meet in the Sheridan Park Community Center, 680 Lebo Blvd., Bremerton at 7 pm.

PFC 2018 Spring Grafting Show – March 3

Only a week until our big Spring Grafting Show!

Learn how to graft and make your own fruit tree, or have one of our members make it for you.  Add varieties to existing trees.  Beginners welcome!  Choose from hundreds of antique and modern varieties of apples, pears, cherries, and plums. We will be selling EMLA 26 apple, OHxF 87 pear, K-5 cherry, and K-1 plum rootstock; scion wood for grafting; and sticks of figs, grapes, and kiwis for rooting. Stock up on berries and other plants, footies for insect protection, grafting knives, mason bees and houses, and other supplies. Learn all about pests and diseases and what to do about them. Find out about our native mason bees and how to care for them. We’ll have lots of experts on hand to try to answer all your fruit related questions. Spend some time with us at the show and learn all kinds of interesting things. Admission is free, but donations are greatly appreciated.

PFC Feb. 8 – Sam Maupin on biochar

Our meeting Thursday, Feb. 8, will feature Sam Maupin from The Brothers Greenhouses talking to us about biochar.  Join us at the Sheridan Park Community Center, 680 Lebo Blvd., Bremerton at 7 pm.

PFC Jan.11 – Rick Mercier on raising mason bees

Rick Mercier will give us a presentation on raising mason bees at our meeting this Thursday, January 11, 2018.  We meet in the Sheridan Park Community Center, 680 Lebo Blvd., Bremerton at 7 pm.

PFC Oct. 12 – Kiwibob will speak about growing kiwis

At our meeting this month on Thursday, Oct. 12, Kiwibob will be teaching us all about growing kiwis. We meet at the Sheridan Park Community Center, 680 Lebo Blvd., Bremerton at 7 pm.

PFC Sept. 14 – Jenny Glass, Diagnostic Plant Pathologist

Our meeting this Thursday, September 14, will feature Jenny Glass, Diagnostic Plant Pathologist from the WSU Puyallup Research and Extension Center Plant and Insect Diagnostic Lab.  Her topic will be tree and small fruit pathology with examples.  If you have unidentified problems on your trees, canes, or bushes, bring them to the meeting in a sealed, clear bag.
