The OOS will hold its annual classroom training and grafting workshop, in lieu of its regular monthly meeting, on Saturday, March 13, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. at McComb Gardens, 751 McComb Road in Sequim which is off Old Olympic Highway.
We will assist you in learning how to graft using the Owens’ Square Graft. Written instructions will be provided. By mixing and matching the scions (the part of the tree that determines the fruit) and rootstocks (the part of the tree that controls the size and characteristics of the tree), the possibilities are endless. All fruit scions have been selected for our area (apples, pears, and plums), rootstock and other grafting supplies will be provided. Observe our experienced grafters and get expert advice from OOS members.
There is no charge to attend and participate in this workshop. However, there is a $5 charge for any tree that you want to take home and graft; or, if you prefer our experienced grafters to graft a tree for you there is $10 charge. Rootstock, scion wood, grafting supplies and information packets are available for purchase at nominal cost.
This is a popular event co-sponsored by Olympic Orchard Society and McComb Gardens. Come early and dress warmly.
Please contact Erik Simpson if you have any questions orchards@olypen.com or 683-6684.
